December Executive board Meeting—December 2, 2010 at Jessica Summer’s home

 

Call to Order:  7:40pm

Members Present: Mary Vander Maten (President), Al and Sandy Obuchowski (Membership Co-Chairs), Paul Armstrong (Treasurer and Webmaster), Jessica Summer (newsletter editor), Tim Harazin (Secretary), Greg Summers and Tim Hish (residents)

Minutes: from Nov 4, 2010  motioned—Mary Vander Maten &Paul Armstrong; approved as amended

 

Treasurer’s Report: Paul Armstrong  motioned—Mary Vander Maten and Tim Harazin;            approved

·         total assets on Nov 30  $17,002.21

 

Membership Committee: Sandy Obuchowski

·         we have broken the 400 mark with 402 members registered!

·         the reminder notes helped—stapled on newsletter

·         suggestion for next year from Paul—preprint some of the reminder notes

·         members don’t all know their block captains; these names are highlighted in the directory

 

Continuing Business—Events

·         Halloween party/parade—a very nice event            

·         neighborhood watch—we still need a new chair

o   two members are considering  co-chairing this committee (Tim Hish and Greg Summers)

o   they asked questions about history, procedures, and duties and will let us know

o   currently there is no watch in place, but there is a need

o   a number of cars were affected by vandalism or theft over Thanksgiving weekend

·         neighbor helping neighbor

o   no requests for help; keep up communication about friends and neighbors who need help

·         holiday events

o   holiday decoration event—Dec 18th

o   we need to prepare baskets as awards for the holiday decorating contest categories

o   Williamsburg, Traditional, Wattage, Judges’ Special, Group and Community

·         voting online for the community award will be closed at noon on Dec 18th

o   Sandy bought baskets for decoration contest

o   motion to change the wattage award to the Scott Wascavage award—approved

o   member who passed away—he loved Christmas and had the most decorations

o   we need to request Santa on a fire truck from the Burke volunteer fire station

o   visit on the last Sunday before Christmas at 2:00pm and go through neighborhoods

o   we need to provide candy—Sandy will get candy and bring to the fire station

o   Catie Morales has ordered the sand for luminaries

·         feed the firefighters—Saturday, Nov 13th

o   great turn-out and fed all three shifts; kids had a fantastic time

 

Continuing Business—Issues

·         FC neighborhood enhancement Partnership Program

o   now they have started to evaluate—no date given

·         speeding signs—VDOT called—signs may be placed near entrances to the community

·         vandalism—we are aware of issues

o   a number of cars were affected by vandalism or theft over Thanksgiving weekend

o   suggestions--people should:

o   be aware of strange cars or people in our neighborhood

o   join the neighborhood watch and keep an eye out for strangers

o   lock cars and don’t leave valuables in sight

o   let neighbors know when you will be out of town

 

New Business

·         landscaping contract process has started with bids from a number of companies

o   deadline for bids is Feb 1st

·          “Craig’s list” for MCA membership

o   Paul has set this up

o   members can sign up on website—e-mail exchange

·         Facebook page for MCA

o   this has also been created

·         entrance lights

o   Rick did buy and put in sets at Paynes Church and Middlegate

·         MCA directory cover design contest

o   no artwork submissions—deadline extended to Dec 15th
