Middleridge General Membership Meeting 15 May 2002 Minutes

The Semi-Annual Middleridge General Membership Meeting was called to order by President Jack Garber at 8:05PM in the Bonnie Brae Elementary School Little Theatre. Pres. Garber made some opening and welcoming remarks.

Special Guest Chap Peterson our local Delegate to the Virginia Assembly spoke on the recent activities of our local government.

Elections of board officers was held next. As there were no nominations from the floor and the proposed slate was elected by acclimation. The new board looks just like last year's board.

Special guest of AAA Rainbow Trash Collection Services spoke about the company which is the supplier of such service to the greatest number of Middleridge homes. Ms Gleba affirmed the Middleridge rate is still $51 per quarter for twice weekly trash collection and weekly recyclable items collection. The employees have full benefits and currently there is no labor shortage. Flyers have been sent recently which outline items to be or not to be put in the recycle bins. Plastic with the '1' or '2' in the triangle symbol are the ones to be picked up. On hot summer days it is okay to offer the guys on the trucks who work so very hard a soda or water or sports drink. The guys really deserve it for all their hard work.

The proposed schedule of events for the remainder of the year was discussed, with emphasis on the membership drive and publication of the directory.

Reports were given by the following:
Treasurer Al Obuchowski discussed how the accounts were set up and what the goals are. Also contributions to our local high schools were explained. Since Scholarship winners were being selected on the same evening they were not announced however a brief explanation of how the money is distributed on behalf of the student winners and the honoraria to their teachers.
Membership Chair Colleen Cioppi explained the system to be used for the membership drive. There will be an initial application form distribution and a follow-up program conducted by the local block captains. It is hoped that every resident will join.
Directory publisher Roy Wagner explained that we will be publishing a change page (which was passed out at the meeting) and additional changes are published in the newsletter. It helps if the application forms are written clearly to avoid misspellings.
Entrance Beautification Chair Sharon Surratt described the efforts of many people to keep our entrances looking good and making improvements as needed. It is an on-going project and help is always needed. Recently permits have been received for work to be done. Each entrance sign has been 'adopted' and will be watered to maintain the nice look of our entryways.
Webmaster Paul Armstrong spoke about how he maintains the information and makes changes to keep the site up to date. He encouraged email messages.
Newsletter editor John Valenti described the activities, deadlines and the survey sent out recently of the newspaper. He hopes people will sent back their surveys so he can review the feedback. Deadlines are the 27th of the month before publication. Residents are also encouraged to submit articles to the newspaper.
National Night Out Chair David Bulova was unable to attend but sent a report. Look for more details in coming issues of the newspaper.
Student Activity Chair Kathy Burrus reported on the clean up efforts of a few students and encouraged other students to call her so she can coordinate the projects and insure the hours are properly credited.
Yard Sale information is it will be one day instead of two since participation has not warranted two days. Signs will be posted to advertise the event and removed by 4 PM.
Traffic calming devices were discussed by Pres Garber. Originally four or five intersections were requested. VDOT said that that was too many and so now they are going to study the neighborhood again. Pres Garber assured everyone that he will stay on top of the project through Del Chap Peterson's office and Supervisor Sharon Bulova's office.
