December Executive Board Meeting—Dec 1, 2011 at Jessica Summer’s home
Call to Order: 7:36pm
Members Present: Mary Vander Maten (President), Rick Jones (Vice-President), Al and Sandy Obuchowski (Membership Co-Chairs), Jessica Summer (Newsletter Editor), Catie Morales (Past President), Steve Morales (Member), and Tim Harazin (Secretary)
Minutes: from Nov 3rd (after corrections) motioned and seconded—Mary and Rick; approved
Treasurer’s Report: Paul Armstrong (not present)
· report will be provided next month
Membership Committee: Al and Sandy Obuchowski
· 390 members
· only memberships submitted by Halloween are eligible to be a part of the decoration contest
· help is needed for the welcoming committee
o people listed on registration forms will be asked
· thank-you card received from Becky Fiel (early bird drawing winner for dinner gift certificate)
Continuing Business—Issues
· entrance maintenance (landscaping)
o Paul will update us next month
· newsletter cost revisions: motioned and seconded—Rick and Al; approved
o multi-monthly discount for full-year advertisers
o order for 12 months and pay for 11 months (get one month free)
o classified ads
o $5 for member/ $15 for non-members
o no pictures to be included
· neighborhood watch—Tim Hish and Greg Summers (not present)
o no report this month
· FC neighborhood enhancement Partnership Program (two letter board signs at entrances)
o both signs have been installed; see photos in next newsletter
o we spent $1,390.14 of MCA money to match--Mary’s summary looks good
o lots of nice complements on the signs
o one possible issue—the signs get hot inside glass
o the letters are melting a bit--can we ask company about this?
· suggestion to consider asking advertisers to sponsor specific events
o this could provide funding for more events or services
Continuing Business—Events
· Halloween party—Saturday, Oct 29th (cancelled)
o Stephanie Morales was given a Coldstone gift card to thank her for the planning efforts
· holiday activities:
o decorating contest—Saturday, Dec 17th (with a raindate of Dec 18th)
o Al is contacting the previous winners to judge for this year
o Diane Bente—offered to judge and donated home-made pretzels for winner baskets
o all winners must be MCA members
o the deadline for online voting for the community award is Dec 17th at noon
o Santa visiting neighborhood on a firetruck—Sunday, Dec 18th 2:00pm
o Jessica has arranged this with the Burke volunteer fire department
o sand for luminaries
o Catie will order sand this week and it will be available for pick-up on Dec 9th
· feed the firefighters
o thanks to Terry Upchurch for volunteering to coordinate this activity
· suggestion to coordinate a leaf pick-up
o the details need to be worked out
· suggestion from Donna Hosek to offer CERT emergency training for community
o would enough members want to take emergency training?
§ county-funded training on minor first aid and triage
§ kit provided and contact in case of emergency
o this could be advertised at the National Night Out event
o we will need a coordinator
· member inquiry about providing free leaf mulch
o we will look into this
