Executive Board Meeting – August 12, 2010 The meeting of the Executive Board of Middleridge Civic Association was called to order by Mary Vander Maten at 7:30 at the home of Mary Vander Maten. In attendance were Mary Vander Maten, President; Paul Armstrong, Treasurer and Webmaster; Al Obuchowski, Membership Chair; Jessica Summer, Newsletter Editor; Catie Morales The minutes from the July Executive Board meeting were previously approved by email. Paul Armstrong presented the Treasurer’s report and noted highlights. Membership: Al Obuchowski reported that there are currently 131 members to join the Civic Association for the 2010-2011 year. Tour of Homes: Was very successful this year and there are already several folks in the neighborhood willing to participate next year. Neighborhood Night Out: Received rave reviews of this year’s event. Middleridge received a write up in the Fairfax Connection praising the evening events. Community volunteers worked very hard to help make the evening a success. Thank you volunteers!! Catie Morales is currently working on “Thank You” messages to the table local businesses that supported the neighborhood. Upcoming Events Pavemasters: The board is looking for community members interested in having some driveway work done. The local company, Pavemasters, has contacted the board to offer a price break on driveway work if there is a significant interest in the community. Al Obuchowski will start the initial collection of interested neighbors. Once there is a group of members, the board will need a group to negotiate the price with Pavemasters. Yard Sale: Will be Sat. Sept. 25. Signs are ready and Catie Morales will place the ad in the local papers. Feed the Firefighters: Jessica Summer will coordinate a meal for the Burke Volunteer station in September. This is the station that joined us during Neighborhood Night Out. We’d like to thank all of them for their support of our community. Dumpster Day: Will be Oct. 2. Mary has gotten the necessary permits. We will have 2 trucks again. John Mitros has the signs and Catie Morales will create a flier for the event. Halloween Parade and Party: There has been a proposal to change the parade route. The new route will start at the top of Broadwater and continue to the park. Fall Clean-Up: Sarah Mayhew will organize a clean-up for November. Directory Art Contest: The board will organize an art contest for the new directory cover. Entrance Sign Management: The solar lights at the Paynes Church address are all working and Rick Jones is trying to make sure all the lights at Middlegate are working properly as well. Empty Lot at Broadwater: The board will submit the grant application for the letter board at the main entrances through Fairfax County again this year. The application for the Mastenbrook grant for the Adopt-A-Park program was accepted. Holiday Judging: Members that win an award are eligible to win after two years. The next Executive Board Meeting is scheduled for September 9, at 7:30 PM at the home of Al and Sandy Obuchowski. The meeting was adjourned at 8:32. Submitted by Jessica Summers
