Kitchen Remodeling to include windows
We decided to replace the existing windows with newer vinyl type. While we shopped for the windows the thought came to replace the two regular windows in the front of the house with a larger bay window in the kitchen area. This increased light into the kitchen area. As the project evolved Carol decided to lighten up the cabinets and replace the appliances. To keep costs down we decided to re-face the cabinets. This made the cabinet job a 4-day task. That was a selling point to us. The appliances were updated removing the 70's yellow. The hardwood flooring was replaced throughout the main floor at a later date.

Lessons Learned
The work done by the contractor was fast and efficient. We were out of using the kitchen area for only about 2 weeks.
The bay window really opens up the room and the whole front of the house. Looking back, we should have replaced the 2-oven stove with a microwave stove instead. This would have freed up a little more counter space where the microwave is now.

Sunroom/Deck Addition
This past year we decided to replace the exiting deck with a smaller deck and convert the screened in area under the deck into a sunroom. The deck was the full length of the house and was really just too big and was getting old. We decided to use a TREX type of wood on the deck because of the low maintenance. We wanted the roof of the sunroom to match the rest of the house rooflines. The room was designed with 4 skylights and 15 window/screens for lots of airflow. The room has a hot tub in the middle so heating & air should not be an issue.

Lessons Learned
Probably would have been nice to have a four-season room, but the cost would have been much more. The other thought was our use of the area primarily as a hot tub room. We love it, but know that blinds are the next step.
