Welcome to 10831 Broadwater Drive – The Stafford Model

In the last year we have remodeled our kitchen.  Originally, the units did not go up to the ceiling and came around into the middle of the floor in a peninsular unit, with a pantry in the corner.  There were no cabinets along the wall towards the window.  Reico Kitchen Design designed the kitchen and Rolling Road Construction did all the work, including the tile work.  We had the pantry removed and cabinets put all along the back wall.  We also had the opening between the kitchen and the dining room enlarged.  The cabinets are Merrillat - cherry paprika. The countertop is Silestone – chosen because it does not scratch or stain.  The appliances were all replaced – Maytag.  The flooring is American cherry and was installed by Kemper carpets, who also recarpeted the whole house this year.   We had the windows and doors changed the year previously.

Lessons learned:  it took a lot longer than we thought mainly because of making decisions on tile, wallpaper, etc.  Expect the kitchen to be out of use at least two months.

We love the look of the cherry floor, but it does mark very easily.  Make sure all the appliances fit before the cabinets are put in – we had problems with the freezer door not opening until some adjustments were made.  Check out all options before making decisions – we had to make some on-the-spot decisions about under counter lighting which we would have made differently if we had investigated our choices beforehand.

Having the backdoor replaced with a single pane door really lightened up the kitchen and we would recommend that even if the whole kitchen is not being redone.

Several years ago we had the sunroom put on the back of the house.  We just had a deck area out there.  Patio Enclosures did the work for us, including the sliding door to replace the dining room window, carpeting, and blinds.  It is a three-season room – not heated so it does get cold in the winter when there is no sun.  The fan and blinds help keep it comfortable in the summer.

Lessons learned:   We wish we had had it made a little bigger – it is 12’x 12’, which we thought would be plenty large enough, however, it would be nice to have room for a small table and chairs.  It probably would have been nice to have a four-season room, but the cost would have been much more.  Other than that, we love it and wish we had done it earlier.

Over the last couple of years we have had new siding, windows, doors and cladding done by Contemporary Remodeling.  The roof was replaced by Atlas Roofing.  All the internal doors have been replaced with six-panel doors – this is a relatively inexpensive way to modernize the look of the inside of the house.

Please feel free to call for more information/telephone numbers of contractors.
